Private Day Tour – Jaipur City
Pick up from Jaipur hotel or airport – City Palace – Jantar Mantar – HawaMahal – Amber Fort – Sun Temple – Drop
This tour is designed for visitors who only have a very short amount of time to discover the city. The tour will also indicate what is achievable in a single day of sightseeing. The Jaipur day tour itinerary visits only the major tourist sights of the city
The morning is spent exploring the historic centre of Jaipur, which is often referred to as the Pink City. Jaipur is a chaotic mix of sights, sounds and smells. All of this can be very draining for visitors new to India but thankfully all of the main tourist sights are close together.
The main attraction for the morning is the maharajah’s massive and lavish City Palace. Inside the complex are decorative state rooms, art museums, extensive armory and the world’s largest silver object – a giant water vessel. Visitors typically spend 2 hours with the City Palace which is still the official residence of Jaipur’s Maharajah
The second sight of the morning is the Jantar Mantar a set of 17th century astronomical instruments that include the world’s largest sundial. The precise celestial movements were believed to aid with the prediction of fate and these were the most sophisticated instruments up until the modern era.
The third section of the morning is spent wandering the streets of central Jaipur and viewing the Palace of the Winds (Hawa Mahal) and the city gate and walls. The Hawa Mahal was used by the Maharajah’s wives to spy on daily life as they were barred from leaving the palace and the highly decorative exterior channeled air through the windows and kept the viewing areas cool.
Highlights of the morning include:
- The magnificent city palace (around 2 hours)
- The Jantar Mantar observation instrument (30 minutes)
- The Hawa Mahal. (20minutes)
- The pink city gates (the Guanajuato) and central Jaipur (30min – 1 hour)
The Amer Fort is one of the most import fortifications in Rajasthan and combines impenetrable defenses with intricate marble detail. The fort is 7km north of Jaipur and an auto rickshaw or taxi is required for the journey. The route passes the beautiful water palace, set in the centre of Lake Mansagar and is one of the most photographed monuments in Jaipur.
The final suggested activity of the afternoon is watching the sunset over Jaipur from the Sun Temple. The location of the temple provides panoramic views of Jaipur and on a clear day the city is bathed in golden by the setting sun, oh, and there are monkeys to feed!
Highlights of the afternoon include:
- A ride on an elephant, the most luxurious way to enter the Amer fort (20minutes)
- Exploring the Amer fort (1.5-2hours)
- Photographing the Jal Mahal in Lake Man Sagar. (30 minutes)
- Short hike up to the sun temple and watching the sunset from the vantage point. (1 – 1.5 hours)
- Being robbed of food by the monkeys of the temple (1min!)
